Vodun Days

Vodun Days is Benin's biggest festival and one of the most striking events in West Africa. Every January, Ouidah fills with drummers, dancers, masked Egungun, Zangbeto guardians and Vodun ceremonies, alongside concerts and visitors from across the region and the diaspora.

Where and when

It takes place in Ouidah, about an hour west of Cotonou, every January. 10 January is Vodun Day, a national holiday in Benin. Check the official dates each year before you book.

Plan ahead

Hotels in Ouidah fill up fast for the festival. Book early, or stay in Cotonou and make the trip each day.

Good to know

Some ceremonies are sacred. Follow your guide, and ask before taking photos.
